EduNews: SA ‘needs other ways to identify potential’

THE matric endorsement (university pass) system should be revised because it deprived students with academic potential of a university education, Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande said yesterday. Nzimande and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga delivered their budget vote speeches to Parliament yesterday, announcing several changes to the way in which state-subsidised education and training is delivered in SA.

Students worldwide tackle tough problems at Imagine Cup 2009

The world’s premier student technology competition invites students to apply their technology know-how and artistic talents to tackle the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

This year, more than 300,000 students from 100 countries are registered for Imagine Cup 2009, a Microsoft Corp. competition that challenges them to use their technology skills and imagination to address the world’s toughest problems. Winning students from local, national, regional and online competitions will compete at the Imagine Cup finals in Cairo, Egypt from July 3–7.
